I've been involved in the Visual Arts for decades as a college student, a photographer, a Fine Arts Center guide, and student of many oil painting classes. Few have been structured to carefully teach a layered graduation of techniques. This is the way I like to learn and the way I will teach. In this class we will: -Do structured exercises and learning techniques that may differ from what you've learned before, or be a refresher, but they will make you a better painter. -Discuss brushes, the canvas, mixing of colors and values of paint, and much more. -Use a limited number of paint colors from which we will mix other colors and use in painting still life setups, not photos. -Do studies of color's shadow/value and intensity using larger brushes, no fine point masterpieces. Everyone must show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination and booster. Classes will be on Tuesdays 10:00-12:00, for six weeks. Email me for exact dates. Required Materials: -Small sketch book -Notebook (to take notes) -Pencil -3 Oil brushes, filbert or flat, small, medium, and large (approx. size 2, 6, 12) -Tube of Red Oil Paint (Permanent Alizarin Crimson or equivalent) -Tube of Blue Oil Paint (French Ultramarine or equivalent) -Tube of Yellow Oil Paint (Cadnium Yellow Medium or equivalent) -Tube of Burnt Umber Oil Paint -Large tube of Titanium White Oil Paint or equivalent -Canvas Pad (16"x20") for Oil Paints, find online -Roll of Paper towels -Small jar/container of odorless mineral spirits (for cleaning brushes) Suggested Materials: -Masterson Art Products, MAS100 Artist Palette Seal 16X12, find online -16" x 12" Palette paper, find online -Small palette knife -Small bottle, refined linseed oil
