Description

Retired intermediate level musician seeking musicians interested in old time, bluegrass, folk, and Celtic music. I play fiddle/violin, mandolin, and Tenor Guitar (DGBE tuning) and sing lead and harmony. I’m Dave Smith and currently live out of state, 2000 miles away in fact, in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. I’m strongly considering relocating to Eastern Kansas, Lawrence, or Kansas City area. (I grew up in Wichita and lived in Lawrence/KC area for eight years before I moved West. All my family still lives there and I would like to relocate to be near my family again in my waning senior years.) I currently jam in several weekly jam groups, including a violin/cello ensemble doing old time, Celtic, fiddle tunes, etc. as well as a weekly Irish session. I also jam bluegrass and folk one-on-one with friends. I’ve belonged to local community orchestras playing violin and have performed as part of musical ensembles at senior centers, assisted living, community events, etc. Obviously, profit is not my motive; rather to bring joy to others with my music. I’m interested in others who want to perform as well as just jam. I haven’t settled on a specific area to live, so I’d like to investigate any organizations, jam groups, etc. in the KC/Lawrence/Eastern KS,/Western MO area that have similar interests to mine. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, recommendations, etc. All serious responses will be answered.
