Ring Sarasota is ready to entertain audiences with some of their favorite music from the stage and screen. Our ringers are excited to entertain audiences with some of our favorite music from the stage & screen. From TV favorites to classic westerns, and songs where audiences can hum along, the diverse repertoire includes such titles as “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Over the Rainbow,” and “The Addams Family.” In addition, the ringers have selected a few original pieces to show off the amazing music composed specifically for handbells. Now in its 12th season, Ring Sarasota, the area’s premier handbell ensemble, is making music throughout the Gulf Coast. With a passion for ringing, these spirited musicians captivate audiences from ages seven to 97 with a unique combination of entertainment, education, and community engagement. Dedicated to enhancing handbell ringing as an art form, the Sarasota‐based group under the direction of former Navy bandleader Rick Holdsworth showcases over 200 bells rung by 15 ringers to create a symphony of sound with special effects mimicking the piccolo, percussion, chimes, and trombone, even the Tibetan singing bowl! Ring Sarasota attracts member ringers from as far north as Tampa Bay and as far south as Fort Myers. Performance-history highlights include a concert for the prestigious Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota (Season Eight), a news-making Veterans Day celebration benefiting 48 hometown soldiers through Manatee Operation Troop Support (Season Six), sold-out Christmas collaborations with Bay Chorale at Neel Performing Arts Center (Seasons Four and Six), an invitation to ring as the featured ensemble at the Handbell Musicians of America Florida State Handbell Festival (Season Five), and the debut of director Rick Holdsworth’s original transcription of Holst’s “Jupiter” from The Planets (Season Three).
