Police Identify Woman Killed In Wilmington Commuter Train Crash

WILMINGTON, MA — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a collision with an MBTA Commuter Rail train in Wilmington on Friday, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. Roberta Sausville, 68, of Wilmington, was driving eastbound on Middlesex Avenue in Wilmington when a Boston-bound Haverhill Line train struck the driver's side of her vehicle near the North Wilmington MBTA Station. The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Sausville was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. No other injuries were reported. RELATED: Woman Killed In Wilmington Commuter Rail Crash: Reports The Wilmington Board of Selectmen released a separate statement Saturday, offering condolences to Sausville's friends and family. According to the statement, safety features in place at the crossing did not activate prior to the crash. "The Board will be demanding answers ... and assurances from the MBTA that procedures are in place to maintain operability of the crossing arms and lights at their rail crossing," the statement read. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities said.
