If your local school district kept within their tax cap budget limits, local homeowners were receiving a bonus check in the mail during the fall. Commack homeowners received $875 checks in 2019, the last year of the program. According to the Albany Times -Herald record, the program cost New York state 1.2 billion dollars each year contributing to a six billion dollar 2020 NY budget deficit.
The following notation is included on the NY Dept of Taxation website; "The property tax relief credit has expired. Eligible homeowners received property tax relief checks in 2017, 2018, and 2019. However, by law, the program expired after 2019."

However, Governor Hochul has proposed reinstating it as part of the 2022 budget.
