Connecticut Health Investigative Team compiles new hospital inspection reports The C-HIT team updated its database of hospital inspections, and some reports detail "Infant injuries, wrong-site surgeries, objects left in patients following procedures, and a health care worker hitting an "unruly" patient," according to the C-HIT staff. This database includes inspection reports completed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. (C-HIT staff compiled a summary of several incidents, and you can read that by clicking here.) Lamont seeks extension of emergency powers In a letter to lawmakers, which was obtained by WTNH News 8, Lamont wrote, "There are compelling reasons to continue the emergency declarations because as the past few weeks have shown, we are still in a state of emergency. The nature of this virus is such that conditions change rapidly, with the resulting need to have the tools in place to respond quickly to an ongoing public health threat." In addition, he said, having the emergency declaration also helps with securing additional federal funds. Lamont also wants 11 executive orders to be extended by state lawmakers. Beloved teacher mourned Melanie Lea Fieffe, 46, of Norwalk, died from cancer this month, according to an obituary posted by The Collins Funeral Home. She worked in the Norwalk Public Schools and St. Luke's in New Canaan, according to the obituary. She is survived by her husband and three children. "Melanie loved all her students deeply," her obituary reads. A celebration of life is planned in the summer. "Melanie was a beloved, cherished member of her community," her obituary reads. "She spent many years involved in her children's school helping to organize events. While helping to create great experience for students she also developed deep personal friendships through her kind heart and spirit. Melanie also served on a few school and town committees to help improve the experience for our students. This included committees on special education which was a passion for her. At the meeting, Lamont said now is the time to invest in rail infrastructure and bring faster trains to Connecticut, which will improve the state's economy, growth, and quality of life.
