Description
For $17/hour, you could either work at a fast food restaurant or retail store with few benefits and hours that often include weekends and holidays – OR – you could become a direct support professional (DSP) working up to 39 hours/week (ideally 4 days/week) with benefits (including insurance, paid time off, and mileage), no evenings, no holidays and no weekends, some scheduling flexibility, and spending time with a really cool guy (Sean D). Sean needs a DSP to provide him with the support he needs to continue enjoying his life as a fully participating and contributing member of the community (Sean’s current DSP, who has been with him for more than 20 years, is retiring). This job includes supporting Sean at his part-time job (mornings) at Wendy’s, assisting him as he enjoys recreational activities, such as bowling, swimming, biking, and shooting hoops, and building his skills in areas such as shopping, eating out, making and preparing healthy food choices, and appreciating music.
Sean is a happy and successful young man who has a developmental disability, Down syndrome, and who lives life to the fullest. Sean has worked at Wendy’s for more than 20 years; he is a good citizen who volunteers, votes and recycles, and he knows – he REALLY knows – how to have a good time. Sean doesn’t just sing karaoke, he accompanies himself on his guitar while singing , and he LOVES a celebration – birthdays, holidays, or just Thursdays – you will find that his enthusiasm is contagious!
