Description

Press release from the City of Reno: 01/21/2022 12:02 PM The City of Reno is now a SolSmart Silver designated community. The City received the designation from the national SolSmart program for making it faster, easier, and more affordable for homes and businesses to go solar.  This designation recognizes Reno for taking bold steps to encourage solar energy growth and remove obstacles to solar development. For companies looking to expand, a SolSmart Silver designation is a signal that Reno is "open for solar business."  Individuals and business owners who are interested in pursuing a solar project are encouraged to visit the City's website to view available resources.  "Making the decision to switch to solar should be as effortless as possible," said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. "I am so proud of this designation for the City of Reno, as it illustrates our commitment to creating diverse job opportunities, while also protecting our environment." To receive the designation, cities and counties evaluate and make changes to their local processes to reduce the time and money it takes to install a solar energy system. For the City of Reno, this includes installing solar photovoltaic (PV) on local government facilities, codifying in the zoning ordinance that accessory use solar PV is allowed by-right in all major zones, offering financing options such as a C-PACE program, posting an online checklist detailing the City's requirements for small rooftop solar PV and more.
