Where can a Newbee go to meet people

I am new to the area and I was hoping someone could tell me a few nice places I go to meet new friends and have a drink and maybe even dance with. I am not looking for sleazey bars where the men look like they just finished working on their cars and the women don't take any pride in their appearance. Please be serious with your reply.
