Description

LaTosha Brown's voice is the nexus between the civil rights movement, the Black Power movement and Black Lives Matter. The 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. keynote speaker is LaTosha Brown, cofounder of the Black Voters Matter Fund, visionary thought leader and cultural activist. Brown is nationally recognized as the “go-to” expert in Black voting rights and voter suppression, Black women’s empowerment and philanthropy. Her voice is the nexus between the civil rights movement, the Black Power movement and Black Lives Matter. Brown was originally scheduled to appear at OSU in January but instead traveled to Washington, D.C. to provide support for the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, where floor debate began on Jan. 17. The national impact of her work at this time could not be more important or relevant. The country is engaged in a generational conversation about the importance of voting, voter access and representative democracy. We’re deeply grateful for Brown’s role and voice in this movement. The keynote session will be offered in-person and virtually. Sponsored by Oregon State University, the Office of Institutional Diversity, the OSU Foundation and the OSU Alumni Association. Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made by Feb. 10 to University Events at 541-737-4717 or [email protected]. Sign language interpreting and live captioning will be provided. NOTE: We will be observing all local health and OSU guidelines related to COVID-19 and we will update you about those protocols closer to the event. In alignment with university policy, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination INCLUDING BOOSTER SHOTS or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of this event (in the form of a paper or electronic copy) will be required for attendance. Additionally, face coverings are required except when actively eating or drinking. LaTosha Brown video links LaTosha getting into "Good Trouble" on Jan. 18, 2022.
