Description
Guitarist looking to play with acoustic musicians that are interested in mixing genres and improvising. I am interested in blending elements of a variety of styles including but not limited to: bluegrass/folk, jazz/gypsy jazz, classical, world music (Celtic, Indian, more). This mix of genres would feature composition and improvisation.
I’ve been playing/studying/teaching music for a pretty long time, and I play both steel-string and nylon-string acoustic guitars. In addition to playing guitar, I write music and do a little singing.
I’d like to meet some other musicians in the area with similar interest in mixing genres, improvising music, and playing acoustically. I’m open to playing with any instruments.
I want emphasize the importance of improvisation for me: I’m not interested in playing everything the same way all the time. While I do want to play pre-written material, I also want to have plenty of room for improvisation. This includes solos and accompaniment, but also more interactive free-form approaches of group improvisation that rely less on a standard solo vs. accompaniment.
Some artists that have influenced me: Tony Rice, David Grisman, John McLaughlin/Shakti, Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Grateful Dead, Julian Lage, Allan Holdsworth, Norman Blake, John Coltrane, Frank Zappa.
