The Art of Espalier
Tuesday, February 15, 2022
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Instructor: Robert Bowden
Are you interested in creating an interesting pruned plant as a focal point in your garden or gaining higher yields from your fruit trees? There is an easy pruning technique called espalier (es-PAL-yay) that can accomplish just that! Plants trained as espaliers can be used as decorative accents in the landscape where they function as living sculptures – but with significantly less trouble than growing topiary. Plants trained in this manner are especially effective against empty walls and bare fences.
Join the Gardens Director, Robert Bowden, as he helps you discover how easy it can be to turn an otherwise standard tree or shrub into a garden showpiece.
Robert Bowden is the Director of Leu Gardens and author of Florida Top Ten Garden Guide and Florida Fruit and Vegetable Gardening: Plant, Grow, and Harvest the Best Edibles by Cool Springs Press.
