Press release from the City of Tampa: Jan. 21, 2022 The City of Tampa Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Council (MHAC) is now seeking nominations from the community for its 2022 Matilda Martinez Garcia Leadership Award. Each year the award recognizes a person or organization that has made extraordinary contributions to the betterment of Hillsborough County's Hispanic community. The recipient of the award will be recognized at the 23rd Latinos Unidos Scholarship Luncheon on May 11, 2022, at Armature Works in Tampa. Established in 2013, the award honors the late Matilda Martinez Garcia, a respected community leader and charter member of the Council, which was founded by then-mayor, Bob Martinez, in 1983. Past recipients of the award include Ms. Martinez Garcia, Mr. Rafael Martinez Ybor, the late Dr. Luz Paredes Lono, Mr. Jose M. Gonzalez, Mr. Tony Morejon, Ms. Maria M. Hernandez and Ms. Aileen Rodriguez. Individuals looking to nominate someone may do so by visiting the following website and filling out the associated Nomination Information form outlining the nature and breadth of the nominee's contributions. Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022.
