This February, connect to the arts and to each other and take an art class! Early Morning Tai Chi – Outdoor Class Thursdays, February 3 – 24 • Tai Chi exercise is appropriate for all ages and any skill level. Learn to move smoothly and efficiently with grace, suppleness, balance and good posture. Learn to relax your body and open your energy pathways. Gently build your strength, flexibility and mental clarity. Boost your immune system. Practicing Tai Chi is a gift to yourself that will help you improve overall, your mind, body and spirit. No experience necessary. Sparkling Watercolor Still Life Painting (Ages 13+) Saturday, February 5 • Add life to you still life paintings! No drab, dull scenes that look stale and static. Students will learn techniques to achieve a dynamic watercolor still life with realism and sparkle. There will be instructor demonstrations of various techniques with ample time for student hands on practice prior to completing a dynamic still life painting. Some drawing and watercolor experience is preferred. Collage and Mixed Media (Ages 16+) Mondays, February 7 – 28 • In this four week course, students will be exposed to various mixed media techniques with an emphasis on collage. This will be a fun and experimental class for anyone who wants to try but doesn't know how to go about it. It will also have relevance for the seasoned artist who wants to try something different. Larger Than Life Watercolors (Ages 18+) Wednesdays, February 9 – March 9 • Loosen up and allow the medium to express life for you by working large in watercolor. Local artist Zan Lombardo will help you fall in love with blooms and show you how to treat each shape in a large work as a composition in and of itself. Fine Art Acrylics Plein Air Painting – Outside Class Wednesdays, February 9 – March 9 • This outdoor, in-person plein air abstract landscape painting class invites nature to be your guide. Learn to use landscapes or seascapes as the basis for an abstract painting. Your paintings won't be realistic but will still be identifiable, as opposed to typical abstract art where the subject matter is removed. Intro to SoulCollage Friday, Fenruary 11 • SoulCollage® is a contemplative and insightful process of self-discovery. It gently opens you to a new way of exploring your inner wisdom. It is a practice by which you can communicate with the unique aspects of yourself while you deepen connections with self and others – all while engaging your creativity! Using simple tools – scissors, glue, magazine images, and mat board – you create cards that are uniquely yours. This process honors your own time, pace, inner-language and spirituality. Paint Like Bob Ross Workshop: Ocean Breeze (Ages 13+) Saturday, February 12 • Join Mathew Halstead, CRI of Lazy Painter Brushworks, for a classic Bob Ross painting workshop with friends at the Alliance. Find freedom on a canvas as Mathew leads you from start to finish through creating the moody ocean scene "Ocean Breeze." Students will take home a finished 16×20 painting. Online Wine & Paint Night with David Acevedo Wednesday, February 16 • Make it it a one-of-a-kind "I love you!" A Valentine's Day gift worthy of an XO, come belly up to the brush bar and paint along virtually with creative genius David Acevedo! For one night only, enjoy an evening of creating and clinking while wearing your comfy pants! David will take you through the steps to create your one of a kind masterpiece to fill that empty wall space you've been staring at. Pour a drink, grab a snack and settle in for an exciting night of sipping and swirling. A Matter of Drama: The Life and Art of JMW Turner – Online Art Lecture Thursday, February 17 • The history of Western painting since 1500 is shaped by unique individuals whose innovations in design and intentions changed the course of painting into our own time. John Millard Turner created the idea of atmospheric drama – infinite space filled with romantic violence and the calm beauty of nature's forces. Intensely private, eccentric and reclusive, Turner was a controversial figure throughout his career, becoming more pessimistic and morose as he got older. He left behind more than 550 oil paintings, 2,000 watercolors, and 30,000 works on paper. A Potpourri of Legal Issues for the Visual Artist Saturday, February 19 • Practical advice about artist-as-businessperson. What happens to your art after your death? Should you incorporate? What can a buyer do with your artwork? How do you successfully coordinate with other artists on legal matters? This and more from an experienced creative arts attorney in a fast-paced, entertaining workshop. Q and A included. Batique Techniques Workshop (Ages 15+) 3-Day Workshop, February 23 – 27 • This 3-Day workshop is about using the batik (Indonesian style wax resist painting) and rozome (Japanese style batik) wax and dye painting processes to create unique artwork on fabric that can be used on everyday household objects, clothing or works of art! Play with tjaps (Indonesian printing blocks), tjanting tools, brushes, and other waxing techniques so that you have a variety of tools to create artwork that is uniquely yours. Are You Stuck? Workshop (Ages 16+) 2-Day Workshop, February 21 – 22 • Bring in existing paintings that you feel stuck with, or want to improve, or start a new painting in mediums including oil painting with brush, with palette knife, watercolor, pastel or acrylic. Jan Ellen Atkielski, fine artist and popular instructor will help you get "unstuck" or help you create new works in the above mediums. Oil Painting for Beginners (Ages 16+) Thursdays, February 24- 31 • This class will cover the fundamentals of oil painting. From color mixing to paint application. And how to create texture, depth, movement in your painting. Students can use their own pictures to paint from or use the instructor's references. Oil painting is very forgiving and a lots of fun. Intermediate Playing with Pastels (Ages 16+) Thursdays, February 24 – March 24 • Creativity with dry pastels will be developed in an atmosphere of individual artistic expression, encouraging guidance and focused learning in various aspects of elevating your pastel paintings into this vibrant medium's. Each class will begin by exploring an aspect of this medium's unique characteristics and applying them, then time is yours to express through color and strokes. You'll receive guidance and support for new perspectives. 36th Annual All Florida Exhibition Deadline for submission is Monday, January 24 • This annual show is the most anticipated of the year. As the name suggests, this exhibition features pieces created by artists working in a wide variety of media from all over the 65,000 square miles that make up Florida. The juried entries come together for an award-winning and exciting exhibition representing today's contemporary Florida artists.
