WESTPORT, CT — A man has been charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol and following too closely after Westport police officers found him passed out in his car, which was in drive. On Sunday at around 9:15 p.m., Westport police responded to a report of a car stopped in the middle of Allen Raymond Lane. The car's operator — identified as Derek Sellers — was passed out, and the car was in drive, police said. Officers attempted to wake him up, and while doing so his car lurched forward and hit an unoccupied police car. The officer was concerned the man was experiencing a medical emergency, police said, so they entered the car by breaking a passenger side window. He then began to wake up, and police said he "did not appear to be in medical distress." Sellers was slurring his words and he smelled of alcohol, police said. After failing the standardized field sobriety tests, he was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol and following too closely. Sellers was released after posting a $500 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 27.
