Press release from the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce: January 19, 2022 The Riverbrook Regional YMCA is happy to announce that at a recent press conference with Gov. Ned Lamont, state Sen. Majority Leader Bob Duff and Mayor Harry Rilling they shared that $1.2 million dollars in funding from the State of Connecticut will be going towards the 98 S. Main Street Y project. During this event at the Gallaher Estate on December 20th, they along with the contingent of state Representatives Chris Perone, Lucy Dathan, and Stephanie Thomas spoke about the importance of brining funding and the jobs which will follow to our City. Riverbrook Regional CEO, Robert C. McDowell let those in attendance know that the project which is slated to begin construction in late 2022 will cost between $6-7 million dollars and this funding will aid in the fundraising efforts for the building. The Y is not alone in this endeavor and will partner with existing tenant Americares Free Clinic and with the Norwalk Housing Authority and UCAN. The project is estimated to be completed in late summer 2023 and will boast STEM/STEAM Classrooms, multi-purpose spaces, a community kitchen, and much more.
