NEW HAVEN, CT — A "viral message" going around that "warns of individuals attempting to distribute masks which were laced with chemicals, causing the wearer to become unconscious," is not true police said.
In a statement, New Haven police "verified that this message is a hoax," according to police spokesperson Scott Shumway.
Shumway said the department reached out to neighboring communities including Hamden, East Haven, and West Haven, who have had no incidents reported, which corroborate this message.
Police ask the public to "not post or amplify this hoax."
