SUMMIT, NJ — Based on new data released by the Westfield Regional Health Department, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Summit decreased in the past week. The Health Department reported 75 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Summit from Jan. 14 to Jan. 20. Of those 75 cases, 31 (41 percent) were among people aged 19 and younger. This is a significant decrease from the previous week's report, which found 188 positive confirmed cases from Jan. 7 to Jan. 13. New Jersey remains at a level of high activity, averaging 89 deaths each day during the past week. This week, the federal government announced that every household can order a set of four rapid tests for free at https://www.covidtests.gov/. The Westfield Health Department reports that 69 percent of children aged five to 11 in Summit have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
