MORRISTOWN, NJ — A roundabout is on its way to Morristown. The construction will be part of roadwork on Morris and Spring Streets, associated with the M-Station redevelopment project. The roadwork will begin approximately Feb. 1, according to town officials. The work will begin with construction of a new traffic signal along Spring Street, followed by converting the intersection of Spring and Morris Streets with a modern roundabout. The new roundabout will reduce queueing and delays in the area and provide "substantial safety improvements," according to a news release from the town. Roadway closures will occur outside of the morning and evening rush hours, and detours will only occur during overnight hours, officials said. But drivers during all periods should prepare for potential delays and seek alternate routes while the construction takes place. Pedestrian detours will be fully designated and signed before construction begins. The town will disseminate messages about specific changes in traffic patterns. M-Station will replace the Midtown Shopping Center strip mall and parking lot by the Morristown Train Station. The development will feature two buildings, a 1,000-car parking garage, retail and public green space. SJP Properties and Scotto Properties broke ground on the first building — M Station East — in November 2020. The building has been completely enclosed with its core and shell complete, readying the office space to be fully occupied by the third quarter of 2022. Professional services firm Deloitte signed a lease to occupy all five floors of office space and will relocate from Parsippany next year.
