Police Officer Serving 26 Years Retires In Long Valley

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A Washington Township Police sergeant was honored on Thursday with a final "walk-out" and retirement ceremony at the police station. Sgt. Brian Szymański had served with the department in its Patrol and Community Policing Units, as well as its Detective Bureau. As a D.A.R.E. Officer (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), children in the Washington Township community had the opportunity to get to know Szymanski while he taught in the schools. He helped to spearhead the police department's rifle program and for the majority of his career, was the department's Range Master. "Brian will be deeply missed and we wish him well in all of his future endeavors," the police department posted on its social media. "Best of luck and God Bless." Along with the officers and members of the first aid squad and fire departments, Washington Township Mayor Matt Murello was at the ceremony on Thursday with Vice Mayor Tyler Oborn and Committee Member Ken Short. "Brian and his family will still be around town, so please join me in thanking Sgt. Szymanski and his famliy for his service and wish him a wonderful retirement from law enforcement," Murello said.
