JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City police officer and a woman were charged after a teenager in their care was hospitalized with injuries to the face, shoulders, and arms, prosecutors said.
Jersey City Police Officer Frank Martinez, 37, and Joanny Hidalgo, 36, of Jersey City, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child on Thursday, said Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
The arrests Thursday stemmed from an incident last month. On Dec. 2, prosecutors say, police were called to investigate an altercation among the pair and "a teenage child in their care."
The child was taken to Jersey City Medical Center and treated for injuries to the face, shoulders, and arms, prosecutors said.
Martinez and Hidalgo surrendered themselves to Hudson County's Special Victim's Unit on Thursday. Both are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 10.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Public Integrity Unit is also assisting with the investigation.
