A long-time Knox County farmer is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 8th District Congressional Seat. WNIN's John Gibson reports:
Ray McCormick told about 20 supporters at the Old Courthouse in Downtown Evansville about taking care of the land:
"And by doing so we can have cleaner water, we can have cleaner air, healthier food that matters to everyone — whether you're in the rural 8th District or in urban 8th District."
The 68-year-old McCormick calls himself as a conservationist:
"I've lived on the land, I've worked to restore prairies and wetlands, and I do all soil-health practices on my farms. So a love of the land, wanting to push conservation, and taking care of the environment is why I'm doing this at my age."
McCormick says as coal-fired power plants close in Indiana, they leave behind a grid:
"That grid system that is in those power plants is very attractive to renewable energy and other sources of energy because you have to get that energy out on the grid."
If McCormick wins the May Primary, he will likely face Republican incumbent Larry Bucshon, who is seeking a sixth term in the U.S. House.
