Dr. Josh Barron hired as District 218 Superintendent

Last night the District 218 Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Dr. Josh Barron as the new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Barron (in the gray suit, pictured with the Board last night) will succeed Dr. Ty Harting, who will retire at the end of the academic year. Dr. Barron has served District 218 for the past 13 years. Since 2015 he has served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction -- prior to that he served as the principal at Shepard High School. "His well-rounded professional experiences, and his time working in 218, make Josh an excellent educator to lead this district moving forward. He is passionate about our students, our staff, and our communities and he is very excited to help lead the district to even greater heights," Dr. Harting wrote to District 218 staff members this morning. "Most exciting to me is that Dr. Barron's hiring allows the district to maintain some sustainability as we continue to work on school improvement. While he will undoubtedly bring new ideas and perspectives to the district, you will also be able to continue and improve on some of the good works that have been put in place over the last several years," Dr. Harting added.
