Description
GILROY, CA — A family resource center is expected to come to Gilroy at the San Ysidro Cultural Center as a result of a partnership between Santa Clara County and the city of Gilroy.
The Gilroy City Council is expected to vote Monday on a multi-lease agreement, where the county would pay the city $60,000 annually through 2026 to lease the center at San Ysidro Park.
The family resource center, managed by First 5 of Santa Clara County and implemented by Catholic Charities, would include workshops and programs.
The East Gilroy neighborhood, where San Ysidro Park is located, has a higher number of lower income families compared to the rest of Gilroy, according to a staff report. The park itself used to be subjected to drug-use, violence and vandalism, according to the city.
The San Ysidro Cultural Center reopened in 2014, providing free programs for the community. The effort continues to address the needs of the neighborhood, specifically younger residents, with the proposed cultural center.
The council is scheduled to discuss the proposal Monday. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and can be accessed here. Click here for the agenda.
