By Bay City News SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Approximately 1,600 residents of Santa Clara County sentenced to report to the Sheriff's Work Program just caught a break. Criminal Supervising Judge Eric Geffon has granted amnesty to residents — almost all had been convicted of misdemeanors — who had been ordered to report to the program between March 17, 2020, and May 1, 2021. The program, closed due to the pandemic on March 17, 2020 and reopened on May 1, 2021, allows defendants sentenced to county jail to satisfy their sentence by performing community service.
