ROSWELL, GA — Orchestra Noir, Atlanta's all African American orchestra, will celebrate Black History Month with a special opening performance at the 21st annual Roswell Roots Festival. Orchestra Noir is recognized for its work with local communities and Grammy Award-winning artists. Their blend of classical, hip-hop and R&B music is a musical phenomenon that is a must-see during the Festival, according to event organizers. The group will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online. Photo by Leslie AndrewsIn February, Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs will kick off a month-long celebration with weekly programming, events and exhibitions that highlight educational, cultural and historic awareness, according to a news release. "Roswell Roots continues to emphasize the importance of celebrating and recognizing our diverse community," said Beckie Hawkins, Cultural Arts Manager, in a statement. "With events and programs throughout February, there is an opportunity for everyone, of all ages, to join us in learning, engaging and connecting to a deeper appreciation of the contributions and stories of Black history and culture." Other events and programs include Super Museum Sunday, Black History 101, a Lives Taken, Lives Remembered exhibit, and spoken word.
