BELMONT, CA — An "aggressive" mountain lion was spotted on camera fighting and killing another mountain lion in a Belmont neighborhood early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. in the 2500 block of Hastings Drive. A video from a resident's doorbell camera captured growling noises and one of the mountain lions eventually dragging away the other.
Game wardens located and removed the dead mountain lion, according to the Belmont Police Department.

"Makes me nervous, very nervous," Lisa Weidanz, a neighbor, told KTVU. "A mountain lion, dragging another mountain lion. Oh my goodness."

But Tiffany Yap, a wildlife expert at the Center for Biological Diversity, told KTVU that mountain lions normally do fight each other over territory and the incident was just "mountain lions being mountain lions."
Belmont police urged people to use caution around the area Wednesday. The victorious mountain lion has not been sighted since, but police pointed people to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's website for tips on what to do when encountering a mountain lion.
