Flatline Van Co. is a fast-growing retailer in the adventure van space. At Flatline Van Co, we build premium parts and accessories for Sprinter, Transit and Promaster adventure vans. Learn more about us here: We are looking to add a team member to the Product Department. The Packaging Engineer designs, tests, and implements packaging designs that are an integral part of our product development process. They also review and improve existing packaging designs. This position develops, designs, and tests standards and guidelines for developing packaging solutions. They work with internal teams and packaging suppliers to achieve functional packaging goals. RESPONSIBILITIES -Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing. -Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving design, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions. -Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging. -Establish standards and guidelines for suppliers. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews. -Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing. -Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage. -Work closely with the Product Engineering Team to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and internal requirements. -Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs. -Work with the Manufacturing Department to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for production. QUALIFICATIONS -Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or packaging engineering preferred. -5+ years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging. -Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards and testing (ISO, ISTA, etc.), drafting and specification standards. -Proficient in 3D CAD software. -Excellent oral and written communication skills. -Experience in rapid prototyping. -Project management skills and experience, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You will need to be a problem solver that can handle situations that arise throughout the day and figure out an optimal solution for the company and the customer. Must be self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You should be confident working independently and work well on a team. You must be a person who values working hard and enjoys contributing to the team! The job is performed indoors in an office setting within our warehouse. This position generally requires extended periods of sitting with extensive work at a computer monitor and regular use of the telephone and e-mail. Ability to occasionally lift and maneuver 50 pounds. COMPENSATION Starting compensation based on experience plus paid vacation. Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
