Cacao , Yoga & Freestyle Rap Activation w/ Movement Journey
Participants will learn fundamental freestyle techniques, do fun group flow activities, and then dance together. In this workshop, individuals will learn ways to gain more freedom through on-the-spot vocal expression, break through fears and blocks, gain trust, increase confidence, and get more comfortable with creating & performing in front of others in a very fun and safe container. Freestyling helps get us out of our heads and dance relieves stress, and gives us more freedom and joy.
Studies have shown when people are freestyling, there are increased activities in areas of the brain associated w/ creativity, motivation, emotion, language, and motor skills. Numerous studies have also shown that music improves mental health and has positive effects on emotional well-being, improving mood, decreasing anxiety, and managing stress.
In this workshop, participants would start by gathering in a circle with cups of cacao, and we'd go around and share our intentions. We'd then go around and sing then freestyle affirmations, then we'd do simple vocal practices with different sounds to different beats. I welcome everyone to talk about their background stories and what they enjoy in a very fun, welcoming way. We then dive into improv activities combined with rhyme and storytelling. Participants are encouraged to popcorn style shout out rhyming words, joys, struggles, and desires. By the middle of the workshop, we break into smaller circles for a few activating exercises. Finally, we meet together as a group for our improv freestyle cypher. We'd then move to ambient and ecstatic dance vibes as I facilitate a 30 minute movement journey, ending with a calm closing circle with final thoughts/expressions, and gratitude.
