Doors open: 7 pm Concert starts: 7:30 pm Studio Channel Islands - Camarillo, CA Presenting Young professional performers NATALIE BUICKIANS, soprano MATTHEW MILES, tenor YOSHIKA MASUDA, cello In collaboration with Pianist ARMEN GUZELIMIAN About the Performers: Armen Guzelimian Armen is celebrated for his versatility as a top-notch collaborative artist, a brilliant soloist and first-rate chamber musician not only in Southern California, but all over the world. He has received national and international critical acclaim for his appearances in many of the major concert halls in the U.S.A and Europe. He has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, California Chamber Symphony, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, the Pasadena Symphony/Pops Orchestra among others, with such conductors as Neville Marriner, Stuart Challenger, Mehli Mehta, Bruce Ferden and Michael Feinstein. As a chamber musician, Mr. Guzelimian has appeared with the Rossetti String Quartet, the Los Angeles String Quartet, Camerata Pacifica, the Dilijan Chamber Music Series, Chamber Music in Historic Sites, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and the Aspen Festival. He made his Disney Hall debut in March of 2014 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Society and returned to the delight of audiences in November 2016. Natalie Buickians Soprano Natalie Buickians is a recent winner of the Metropolitan National Council Competition, Los Angeles District and participated in SongStudio 2020 at Carnegie Hall under the direction of soprano Renée Fleming this January. She is a doctoral graduate from the Eastman School of Music. She participated in the Aram Khachaturian International Competition where she took top jury prizes, 2nd in the Friends of Eastman Opera Aria Competition, and 3rd in the Jesse Kneisel Lieder Competition. Natalie made her European debut in the role of Suor Genovieffa in Puccini's Suor Angelica in Urbania, Italy. Her previous operatic engagements include the role of First Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Giulietta in Offenbach's Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Elle in Poulenc's La Voix Humaine, Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and the Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Matthew Miles Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Matthew Miles moved to Los Angeles to attend USC for a Master's in Vocal Arts. He has sung 25 opera roles and feels equally at home in the choral scene. As a member of the LA Master Chorale, he has sung under numerous conductors, including Grant Gershon, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Lionel Bringer, Nicholas McGegan, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Eric Whitacre. Additionally, Matthew is studying Orchestral Conducting with Sharon Lavery at USC. He will conduct Beethoven Symphony No. 7 in November 2021. He is the Choir Director at Glendora United Methodist, a Major Giving Officer at Classical KUSC - 91.5FM, and Co-Founder of the Los Angeles School of Music with his wife, Alana. Together they have three children: Michael (7), Olivia (5), and Joshua (almost 3). Yoshika Masuda Described by the Chopin Magazine Japan as 'a remarkable cellist... one of the finest cellists of his generation', Japanese 'cellist YOSHIKA MASUDA has performed throughout Australia, Japan, China, the US, Mexico and much of western Europe in prestigious venues such as the Solitär at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Opera House in Sydney, the Opera City Hall in Tokyo and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Yoshika is the 1st prize winner of the 40th Midland-Odessa National Young Artist Competition (strings) in the USA and the 25th Australian Concerto & Vocal Competition, but his most recent success was at the 11th All-Japan VIVA HALL cello competition, the premier cello competition in Japan, where he won the 1st prize and the audience prize. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe String Award. His other accolades include 2nd prizes at the Sydney Cello Award and the J&A Beare International Solo Bach Competition. He has performed as soloist with orchestras such as the Juarez Symphony (Mexico), Milton Keynes City Orchestra, Manchester Beethoven Orchestra, Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, North Queensland Symphony and the YMF Debut Orchestra with conductors such as Sian Edwards, Nicholas Milton, and Lucas Richman. His performances were broadcast on ABC Classic FM (Australia), BBC Radio 3 (UK), Klassik Radio (Germany) and Concertzender Radio (The Netherlands). Studio Channel Islands is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to a bringing together artists and community for extraordinary artistic encounters that enrich, educate, and entertain.
