TAMPA, FL — Power has been restored to the area following a crash Wednesday morning at Dale Mabry Highway and Swann Avenue.
According to Tampa police, at 9:29 a.m., a 60-year-old man driving a dump truck north on South Dale Mabry Highway lost control due to a medical condition and struck a Tampa Electric Co. power pole and a concrete light pole. The truck then continued onto a grassy area at the Verizon store at 714 S. Dale Mabry Highway and angled across the Dale Mabry and Swann Avenue intersection.
The dump truck continued to roll through the South Beach Tanning Co. parking lot where it struck a parked vehicle before coming to rest on Swann Avenue just west of Dale Mabry.
The driver was found unconscious and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It took crews several hours to restore power to the area.
