NEW YORK CITY — A man slammed a 72-year-old woman's head into a Chelsea newsstand Wednesday for no apparent reason, according to police. Video shows the man strolling down West 17th Street near Ninth Avenue then reaching out to shove the woman, without pausing to stop, about 3:10 p.m., police said. The woman's head hit the stand with enough force to cause bruising and swelling, for which she was treated at Healthplex Hospital, police said. Police are now looking for the sidewalk-shover, whom they say is about 50 years old and was last seen in a black hoodie jacket, black sweat pants, a black winter hat, white sneakers and carrying a blue and black book bag. The incident isn't the only random shoving attack in recent days. Michelle Alyssa Go, 40, died Jan. 15 after a man shoved her into an oncoming subway train at the 42nd Street station, authorities said. Go's death prompted an outcry over anti-Asian violence, subway safety and how the city deals with homeless people experiencing mental health problems. People with information about this incident can call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), online at the CrimeStoppers website or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
