MELROSE, MA — The man accused of firing a gun at a vehicle in broad daylight near Mount Vernon Avenue in November is back in custody — but only after being released after a previous arrest following the Melrose shooting.
An exclusive Boston 25 investigation revealed that Jean Cypien, 29, was arrested Tuesday at a Canton apartment complex and brought straight to Melrose to be booked on charges related to the November shooting.
Cypien had previously been arrested in Canton in December, but a judge at Stoughton District Court released him on personal recognizance and without needing to post bail while Melrose detectives were on their way to pick him up, according to the report.
Boston 25 said Cypien has a lengthy rap sheet across multiple counties.
Cypien is charged in connection to a Nov. 19 shooting near Mount Vernon Avenue and Mount Vernon Street. He is accused of firing at least two shots at a car with people inside. Police said at the time they believed the shooter and people in the car knew each other.
No one was injured in the shooting.
