PRINCETON, NJ — The long-awaited and much-debated Witherspoon Street Improvement Project is scheduled to begin this spring. And the coming days are going to see a flurry of activity in the neighborhood, with street closures and traffic diversions. In preparation for the project, utility companies will be working to replace and upgrade facilities between Nassau Street and Green Street over the next several weeks. Verizon will start work on their underground communications facilities when all permits are received. This could be as soon as Thursday, Jan. 20, according to officials. Work will be performed between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and during that time traffic control will be in place. Residents will be allowed to use Witherspoon Street while work is on. Expect periodical full closures of Witherspoon Street that will be coordinated by the Police Department. Parking will be impacted during construction, and residents and visitors are asked to plan accordingly. Crown Castle and New Jersey American Water will also be working to add or upgrade their facilities. Crown Castle is expected to begin work as soon as Monday, Jan. 24. New Jersey American Water plans to perform its work during the third week of February at night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Witherspoon Street will be closed to traffic during these times. Further updates will be provided as the time approaches. For more information on the Witherspoon Street Project, click here. Thank you for reading. Have a correction or news tip?
