Here are the top five stories in Denver today: City kicks Save Open Space's representative off of visioning committee. Despite the group's success on last November's Denver ballot, the City of Denver's opposition to the group spills over into visioning meetings for what the future of the former Park Hill Golf Course might look like, and it's not pretty. (Denverite)2021 was the most deadly year on Colorado's roads since 2002: Preliminary data from the Colorado Department of Transportation indicates that 672 people died on Colorado roads in 2021, the most since 2002. As final numbers come in, that number is expected to grow to over 700 fatalities for the year. (CPR)Will Outdoor Retailer Expo stay in Denver? Will COVID-19 cancel plans for an in-person Snow Show this January? As talk of remaining in-person grows, so does the conversation around Outdoor Retailer's next home. The contract at the Colorado Convention Center is up following the June 2022 show, and those running the show say that they are in search of the expo's new home. (FN)The Culture Museum comes alive in Five Points. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend saw the grand opening of The Culture Museum at 26th and Walnut in Denver's Five Points neighborhood. Led by Charlie Billingsley, it is the artist's second installation in Denver, and a follow up exhibition to her Museum for Black Girls in 2019. The new owners have bet on their ability to not only save the iconic independent book chain, but have turned it into a lucrative, 21st century business. Over the past year, Tattered Cover has launched multiple new stores, restructured its operations and announced statewide moves. (Denverite) The Environment: Colorado town grapples with its future as coal mine is set to close. The coal plant in Craig, CO is closing, along with the mine that feeds it and has nearly 115 more employees, and all the workers will lose their jobs over the next decade, at the Craig Station.
