Press release from MPAC:
Jan. 20, 2022
On March 12, 2022, the largest cultural event in Morris County, The Saint Patrick's Parade, with an expected 70,000 spectators and 5,000 marchers will have two additional reasons to celebrate. International Irish folk artists, Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones will be in concert at Mayo Performing Arts Center at 5:00.
A second interactive children's show featuring local youth and adult dancers and musicians will perform at Mayo at 2:30. Local resident, Pam Johnson commented, "I'm glad to hear that after the parade there is an event where I can bring my grandchildren to enjoy our heritage, get warm, get something to eat and use the bathrooms." Performers will interact with the families, allowing the children to ask questions about step-dancing outfits, shoes, kilts, bagpipes, and other instruments.
"We are looking to give people a reason to stay in town and continue celebrating their Irish heritage," according to Bill Duggan, leader of the George Washington Council 359 of the Knights of Columbus, organizers of these concerts. Duggan continued, "Our goals are to raise charitable giving funds for local needs, teach our children about their Irish heritage and support our local businesses that continue to struggle during Covid."
The George Washington Council 359 is a group of over 400 Catholic men, established in 1898. The Council is located on The Green in Morristown, NJ.
Tickets to both concerts are available at: https://secure.mayoarts.org/16876/16878.
