Press release from City of Fort Worth: January 19, 2022 The North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge was a friendly competition hosted by the North Central Texas Council of Governments that encouraged communities to see who can pick up the most litter per resident. The competition was held from September through October 2021. The City of Fort Worth and Keep Fort Worth Beautiful walked away as the big winner with 1,562 volunteers who contributed 2,568 hours to the challenge. The challenge invited communities, churches, scouts, businesses and passionate residents to organize litter cleanup events. "I've yet to meet a person who claims to love litter," said Brandon Bennett, Code Compliance director for the City of Fort Worth. "It's so amazing when I see the commitment of volunteers in our community. They generously donate their time to Keep Fort Worth Beautiful to help make Fort Worth cleaner. I want to congratulate and thank each and every person who has such a passion to keep our city one of the most livable – and beautiful – in the nation." The winning stats: Volunteers removed 31,292 pounds of debris. 110 community groups participated. There were 35 organized cleanup events. The Poly Environment Group had the largest cleanup event, with 129 volunteers. Jose Garcia was the individual who led 21 cleanup activities and removed 640 pounds of debris. Volunteers removed 31,292 pounds of debris. Winning the inaugural event means Fort Worth will be the first city to receive the challenge trophy, which will move from community to community in future years. Fort Worth plans to hang onto that award by continuing to exhibit the great pride its residents have in keeping their city clean and beautiful.
