HOBOKEN, NJ — On the heels of the Dec. 31 closure of Hoboken's only diner, another restaurant staple in the mile-square city announced on Friday that it will soon close as well. And as with the Malibu Diner, Arthur's Tavern, a Washington Street steakhouse, may return someday after extensive renovations, but the owners left the timeline unclear. The restaurant said it will sell off its Tiffany lamps, neon signs, and all furnishings. Commenters on the restaurant's Instagram asked if they were closing for good, or just for renovations, but got no answers. "Sounds to me like they aren't sure," wrote one commenter. An email to owners David and Wanda Jacey for clarification was unanswered by press time. "Please come visit us one more time and enjoy an Arthur's steak, the famous griddled potatoes, garlic bread, French onion soup, and our famous burgers," the owners wrote on social media. Jersey Digs reported in 2020 that the renovations would be extensive, and that the restaurant will likely return. Hoboken Girl said Friday that renovations may take a year to 18 months.
