Man Sentenced To Decades In Prison For Morrisville Shooting

MORRISVILLE, PA — A man convicted of several charges connected to a 2019 shooting was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Thomas Zorrer, 39, will spend between 18 to 40 years behind bars for attempted homicide. He was found guilty on all related charges, including two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of felon not to possess a firearm, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, and possession of an instrument of crime, on Thursday, Dec. 2. Before sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Marc J. Furber played a series of calls Zorrer made from prisoner to the victim and his ex-girlfriend, as well as a four-page note with more threats directed to those to and others. At the sentencing, Common Pleas Judge Brian T. McGuffin made mention of Zorrer's "constant disrespect for authority, his egregious conduct, and his wanton disregard." "I mean you can't be good in jail; how will I be confident you will be good if you get out," McGuffin said before sentencing. Zorrer was also sentenced to five years of probation, as well as him being unable to have any contact with the victim or his ex-girlfriend. On Feb. 21, 2019, Zorrer, who was homeless, was living with his girlfriend in the victim's home in the Bel Aire Trailer Park. After an argument ensued between Zorrer and his girlfriend, the victim asked them both to leave. Zorrer then pistol-whipped the victim with a 9mm handgun before firing the weapon close to his head, grazing the victim's ear. As an already convicted felon, it was illegal for Zorrer to have the weapon in the first place; the victim said he is still suffering from hearing problems as a result of the shooting. He was later apprehended by state police in Penndel Borough.
