CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and New Hampshire State Police announced Wednesday that they are closing the cold case of Arlene Clevesy, 48, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, whose body was found in Newton on June 4, 1972. After a seven-year investigation, including extensive interviews with a prime suspect, Albert Francis Moore Jr., who died in prison in November 2019 on another murder charge from August 1972, investigators have closed the case. "Investigators conducted interviews with relevant witnesses and confirmed their earlier statements which included descriptions of the crime scene, Ms. Clevesy and Mr. Moore's actions the night of her death, and Mr. Moore's admissions about that night," according to Susan Morrell, a senior assistant attorney general. "They also conducted multiple interviews with Mr. Moore in prison during which he denied responsibility for the murders of both Arlene Clevesy and Donald Rimer." Based upon the evidence, the earlier admission, and the fact that Moore was now deceased, they are closing the case. In a statement, Clevesy's family thanked investigators and said she was dearly missed. "Though we can no longer prosecute, we still feel some relief in knowing what happened to Arlene that night, and, more importantly, who is responsible," they wrote. Choo-chooing Into History The Union Railroad Station and Freight Shed in Wakefield have been honored by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior with placement in the National Register of Historic Places, for their contributions to transportation and commerce history as well as for their architectural distinction, according to the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources. The station was built in 1854 and was used by the Boston & Maine Railroad. It was decommissioned in the mid-1950s. The Wakefield Heritage Commission purchased the property in 2006 as part of its effort to create a heritage park in town. The shed was constructed in 1875. At one point, at the height of rail travel, there were five passenger stations in Wakefield alone. Only one other one remains — and it is a private home. The distiller's showcase held seminars, tastings, and other events in November. The commission's chairman, Joseph Mollica, called the event "a monumental success" while also providing food for those in need. "We especially want to thank our broker, supplier and restaurant partners who play an integral role in making the event the success that it has become," he said. "Their commitment, creativity and support for our customers and important statewide causes like the New Hampshire Food Bank is greatly appreciated." Another additional $10,000 was donated to Veteran's Count, the philanthropic arm of Easterseals Military & Veterans Services, with a partnership between Chateau Ste Michelle and Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, based on sales at liquor and wine outlets. The New Hampshire Liquor Commission capped off its most successful Distiller's Showcase of Premium Spirits by raising a record $122,000 in support of the New Hampshire Food Bank.
