NAPERVILLE, IL — An early morning fire collapsed the first floor of a home in the 700 block of Chicago Avenue Thursday, causing $600,000 in damages, according to the Naperville Fire Department. Firefighters got to the scene just after 2:30 a.m. to find the home "engulfed in a large volume of fire." As crews started to battle the blaze, they noticed part of the home's first floor had collapsed into its basement. The fire was contained just after 3 a.m., but firefighters stayed onsite to put out remaining hotspots. Fire officials say no one was home during the blaze. No civilians were hurt, but one firefighter sustained a minor injury that was treated at the scene. The home was deemed to be uninhabitable after the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.
