Press release from the City of Huntsville: January 19, 2022 With temperatures expected to drop significantly this week, the City is working with several nonprofit community partners to open three warming centers in Huntsville. Warming centers will be available to residents at no charge starting 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, to 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the following locations: Need a ride? Public Transit and the Huntsville Police Department will provide free transportation to and from the warming centers during their hours of operation. "We encourage anyone who needs to beat the cold to visit one of our warming centers starting Thursday," said Community Development Manager Scott Erwin. "With help from our partners First Stop, the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (NACH) and Church of the Nativity, we will also be providing meals, sleeping cots and face coverings to help limit the spread of COVID-19." Masks are required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. Other COVID-19 policies specific to each location will also be enforced. Residents can also dial 2-1-1, a 24/7 hotline from United Way for individuals and families who need help.
