Description

Doorman is a 70ish lb, around three year old pure bred German shepherd looking for his forever home! He is up to date on all of his shots, and has a dental appointment in February that I will be covering. I have been fostering Doorman since July, and he has grown into a wonderful dog ready for a family. Doorman loves all people, especially men, loves going on runs and walks, playing fetch, and snuggling. Doorman is housebroken, crate trained, and has been through a 6 week board and train program. When I found Doorman he was very skinny, a neglected dog living in a pistachio orchard. When a friend started feeding him, he moved onto his front porch and became the door man of the house, hence the name that stuck. Doorman was not dog socialized when I found him, and we have worked hard on reinforcing good behaviors and teaching him how to be appropriate with other dogs. Doorman does best with other dogs when introduced slowly, and has expressed a lot of interest in playing with my cattle dog, who is uninterested. Once properly introduced he is very good with other dogs of all sizes. He knows sit, down, “wait”, heel, and also goes on loose leash walks. Doorman can become overstimulated in new situations but continues to make amazing progress! My hope is to find someone excited to learn and grow with him. I love this dog so much, but my cattle dog is very mean to him and at this point hindering his progress. Doorman would do best as an only dog or with someone who is experienced with German shepherds. He could be great with another dog who is on the chill side as long as proper effort is made to have a good introduction. We just moved to a property that has a cat and will soon have chickens, so I can update on how he responds with those animals soon! He was previously roaming a property with cats, chickens, sheep, and peacocks, so I don’t expect him to have many issues. We have worked so hard on his training and focus that I think he can handle most things with proper introduction! I am asking a rehoming fee which I will reduce if you continue to work with a trainer and give me proof of obtaining pet insurance. I just want the best for my dude! Hoping for someone local so he can experience all the beauty of the central coast, but I am open to adopters out of the area. Hit me up if you have any questions or would like an application!
