Learn how weave a bread basket with Native American artist, Steven Carty! The perfect accompaniment to a loaf of freshly baked bread is a hand woven basket. Come to Camden FireWorks and learn to blend functionality and form through the art of basket weaving. This workshop is good for ages 8 and older. Made possible with funding from the Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission at Camden County College, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. About the artist Steven R. Carty is a second generation basket weaver from South Jersey who has taught basket weaving for many years. He learned under the instruction of his mother who brings their Native American heritage into play with handmade baskets. Carty has taught multiple forms of basket weaving; however the utilization of wild gathered materials in his weaving is truly his passion. Carty strives to teach others how to create usable art straight from nature, and in a way that is sustainable.
