NORWICH, CT — A Norwich man has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for illegally possessing ammunition, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Nnamdii Ross, 34, of Norwich, will also serve three years of supervised release. According to prosecutors, New London police responded to a report of shots fired on Ann Street in New London during a large gathering Nov. 2, 2020. One shooting victim was found and transported to the hospital. Officers found .40 caliber, .45 caliber, and 9 mm rounds of ammunition. Ross was also shot at the gathering and was transported to the hospital by his fiancée. At the hospital, investigators took possession of some of Ross's personal effects, including six rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, according to prosecutors. Law enforcement recovered a .45 caliber handgun that was found at a home in New London in August. Analysis of the handgun revealed Ross's DNA and a link between the handgun and the .45 caliber ammunition found on Ann Street on Nov. 2, 2020, according to prosecutors. Ross's criminal history includes state felony convictions for robbery and drug offenses. Ross pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon Oct. 7.
