Fire Breaks Out At Norwalk Linen Service Building: FD

NORWALK, CT — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out at a restaurant supply store in Norwalk early Wednesday morning despite below freezing temperatures and icy conditions around the building, according to fire officials. In a statement, Deputy Chief Edward Prescott said crews responded to Norwalk Linen Service Inc., located at 7 Reynolds Street, around 5:30 a.m. and found heavy smoke emitting from the building. When firefighters entered the building, they discovered heavy fire inside and used multiple hose lines to extinguish the flames as truck crews ventilated the roof. The fire was brought under control around 6:45 a.m. as crews continued to extinguish smoldering linen in and around collapsed machinery, Prescott said. No injuries were reported. A total of 33 Norwalk firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while Stamford, Westport, New Canaan and Rowayton fire departments covered the city until crews were available again around 8:30 a.m. During this time, Rowayton and Westport firefighters extinguished a car fire in the city, Prescott said. Deputy Fire Marshal Kirk McDonald and Fire Inspector Bryan Scully have called in the state fire marshal to assist in investigating the cause of the fire, Prescott said.
