Post Office Thieves Nabbed At Jersey Shore, Police Say

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Two North Jersey men were charged earlier this month after breaking into mailboxes at a Shore post office, authorities said. Ricky Javier, 23, of Hackensack and Kaseem Kid, 29 of Lyndhurst, were found by police on Jan. 9 leaving the Oakhurst Post Office at 10:15 p.m. with "several pieces of mail" in Kid's pockets and near the pair's vehicle. "The mail appeared to be dry despite the rainy conditions and many pieces of the mail had sticky glue-like substance on it," the Ocean Township Police Department said in a statement. "Officers checked the mailboxes located at the rear of the post office and observed a sticky substance on the slot where patrons would insert their mail." Kid and Javier were arrested at the scene, police said. The vehicle they were operating was seized pending a search warrant. Kid was charged with Burglary, Theft, Possession of Burglar Tools, Receiving Stolen Property, and Tampering with Evidence. He was released on a summons pending a future court appearance. Javier was charged with Burglary, Theft, Possession of Burglar Tools, and Receiving Stolen Property. He is being lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institute pending an initial court appearance.
