We are looking for potential long-term career minded individuals who want to help us meet the growing needs of our customers. This is a skilled position responsible for stump removal projects both commercial and residential around the fox cities. Primary duties involve stump grinding, debris removal, level/grading work areas, dirt installation, and hydroseeding. This position also responds to emergencies of up rooted hazardous stumps in public areas due to storm damage or heavy winds, and participates in snow and ice control operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the owner as the company continues on its expansion efforts while maintaining an upward trajectory. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Grind and remove tree stumps on all greenspaces. Perform landscaping duties if necessary.. Assist with planting new ball and burlap or sapling trees. Assist supervisor in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment i.e. proper PPE, debris barriers and ground protection. Attend seminars and workshops to keep up-to-date on the latest technology concerning Arboriculture and Urban Forestry. (50%) Operate and drive large vehicles such as 3-4 ton dump trucks with trailers. Be eligible to get and maintain class A CDL, currently a plus but not 100% necessary at this time. Operate specialized power and hand equipment such as hydro seeder, tractors, chainsaws, trenchers, stumpers, skid-steers, sprayers, snowblowers and other motorized equipment used in the industry. (30%) Participate in snow and ice control operations including plowing and salting on both commercial and residential properties both mechanically and by hand. Record and maintain daily activity reports. Perform other duties as assigned. (10%) Assist in training new employees. Assist Crew Leader and Supervisor in the direction of seasonal employee work activities and in conducting seasonal employee evaluations. (10%) Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: No degree required, we will train, 30 day probationary followed by 90 day evaluation. Minimum of one year work experience in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry or a related field. Possess and maintain a valid WI CDL Class A.(Not necessary at this time but is preferred) Possess and maintain a WI pesticide applicator certification.(upcoming) Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the practices and principles of Arboriculture/Urban Forestry including, but not limited to, tree identification, and safe stump removal procedures. Knowledge of the methods, equipment and materials used in Arboriculture/Urban Forestry. Ability to acquire the skills necessary to perform mechanical and hydraulic system maintenance. Observe and spot potential problems with equipment before they become full blown issues. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for tree work and working near or in traffic. Knowledge of the safe application of fertilizers and pesticides. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to complete necessary paperwork. Ability to withstand a variety of outdoor weather conditions, temperatures and working conditions. Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Must be willing to accept and be responsible for daily production goals and safety procedures of the crew. Good time-management skills. Ability to be flexible with changes in job scheduling. A clean/valid Driver’s License. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Yard tractors (articulated and telescoping), skid steer loader tractor, stump grinder, tree spade, tandem dump truck, 3-4 ton dump truck, one ton dump truck, front end loader tractor, pickup truck with plow, snow blower, trencher, chain saw, and hydro seeder. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, bend, lift, reach, push, pull, squat, and kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and operate heavy tools for extended periods of time. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions while repairing equipment in the field. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, cold or humid conditions, as well as fumes and toxic chemicals. SCHEDULE This is a full time position Typical schedule 7am-4pm, Monday-Friday, 9 hour shifts, with optional 10 hour shifts available summer-fall. Overtime opportunities available. COMPENSATION Starting pay range $16-19.23/HR, depending on experience and qualifications. Advancement to crew lead(Stump Grinding) position $21.63-$24.52/HR. Further increases beyond the top of the pay range, will be based on performance in the form of bonuses & commissions.
