Description
GLEN ELLYN, IL — If you've ever seen competitors using a broom to sweep a heavy stone across ice, you've witnessed the oft misunderstood, very unique sport of curling. Residents can try their hand at the centuries-old sport with curling lessons at Polar Plaza Feb. 6.
No ice skates are required to set foot on Polar Plaza's curling lanes and all the Glen Ellyn Park District will provide all the equipment you need for the lesson. Teachers will show students how to throw and sweep a curling stone, along with sharing rules and strategies for mastering the sport.
Polar Plaza's two curling lanes opened Dec. 2. Up to four players at a time can borrow equipment and use a curling lane throughout the season.
The curling lessons are open to residents who are eight years old or older. The fee to participate is $20 per person. Students can choose from seven 45-minute time slots, with the first slot starting at 10 a.m. and the last slot starting at 3:15 p.m.
