Description
MARIETTA, GA — Two men were arrested after an attempted burglary and SWAT standoff outside a Marietta home in the early morning hours Wednesday.
Officers were dispatched to a home on Birney Street at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday after a neighbor saw someone crawl through one of the windows of the home. When officers arrived, they saw someone moving around inside, a spokesperson for the Marietta Police Department said in a news release.
After contacting the homeowners, police confirmed they were not home and no one should be inside. The suspect did not comply with officers on scene, which prompted the SWAT team to be activated.
"Methodical communications" led to two suspects surrendering to officers, who cleared the residence and confirmed no one else was inside at 4:36 a.m.
Travis Copeland, 53, and Darrell Ballard, 47, were arrested and booked into the Cobb County jail. Both of the men face burglary and obstruction charges. Copeland also had an outstanding warrant for felony drug charges.
"See something, say something worked again. We thank the neighbor who called when they observed suspicious activity," MPD said in the release.
